Le mwcqLitracee (mwcgLythraceae mwcwmwdaJ.St.-Hil., mwdq1805) sono una mwdgfamiglia di mwdwpiante angiosperme appartenente all'mweaordine mweqMyrtales dalla distribuzione cosmopolitacite-ref-sainthilaire-1-1[1]cite-ref-0-2-0[2].

Il nome della famiglia, inizialmente definita come mwgwLythrariae, deriva da quello del mwhatipo nomenclaturale di questa, ovvero il mwhqgenere mwhgmwhwLythrumcite-ref-3[3].

Descrizione

Le Litracee comprendono in maggioranza specie erbacee o arbustive. Sono però presenti anche alcune specie arboree, limitate a regioni temperato-calde o tropicali.

I fiori sono in genere colorati e ben evidenti, isolati o più spesso riuniti in infiorescenze di vario tipo (mwlgpannocchie, mwlwracemi ecc.).

I frutti sono in genere mwmqcapsule che si aprono a maturità, più raramente mwmgbacche.

Distribuzione e habitat

Le Litracee si concentrano nelle regioni a mwnqclima temperato-caldo e tropicale, ma non mancano nelle regioni a clima temperato-freddo. Generalmente amanti dell'umidità (esistono tra le Litracee varie erbe acquatiche), rifuggono dalle regioni mwngdesertiche.

In mwoaItalia sono presenti nella mwoqflora spontanea i generi mwogmwowAmmannia, mwpamwpqLythrum e mwpgmwpwTrapa. Vengono inoltre utilizzati, anche nei nostri climi, come mwqapiante ornamentali i generi mwqqmwqgLagerstroemia e mwqwmwraPunica.
